Three Dutch nationals lost their lives early Saturday when the minibus carrying them struck the rear of a stationary tractor-trailer on Interstate 71 in central Ohio. The crash occurred just after 2 a.m. near the town of Delaware as the group was returning to their accommodation following a day of sightseeing in and around Columbus.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the tractor-trailer had pulled onto the highway shoulder to address a suspected tire issue. Moments later, the minibus, which had slowed briefly behind the truck, veered off the main lanes and ploughed into the trailer’s rear. First responders arrived within minutes and found eight people on board.
