PSV thrash Utrecht 6-1 as AZ stay top

PSV Eindhoven delivered a statement performance at Philips Stadion, dismantling FC Utrecht 6-1 to move within striking distance of league leaders AZ.

Relentless First-Half Display

The hosts raced into a commanding 4-0 lead by half-time, spearheaded by a sensational hat-trick from striker Santiago Giménez. Marco van Ginkel and Johan Bakayoko added to the rout, exploiting gaps in Utrecht’s defence with incisive runs and clinical finishing.

  • Santiago Giménez (18′, 32′, 38′): Completed his treble with three pinpoint strikes.
  • Marco van Ginkel (24′): Bent a fine shot beyond the goalkeeper from the edge of the box.
  • Johan Bakayoko (42′): Slotted home after a swift counter-attack.

Utrecht pulled one back early in the second half through David Solari, but PSV restored their four-goal cushion when Johan Bakayoko fired home his second of the evening. Despite late pressure from the visitors, PSV’s defence held firm to secure a memorable victory.

AZ Keeps 100 Percent Record Intact

Earlier on Saturday, AZ Alkmaar extended their perfect start to the season with a 5-2 win over Go Ahead Eagles. Oussama Idrissi starred with two goals, while Jesper Karlsson, Teun Koopmeiners and Calvin Stengs also found the net. Despite strikes from Jesper Karlsson and Youri Regeer for the Eagles, AZ’s attacking flair proved decisive.
