Sintel is a 12-minute animated short that follows a determined young woman on her quest to rescue her pet dragon, Scales, after it is kidnapped.
Produced in 2011 to showcase the power of Blender, the free and open-source 3D software, the film was backed by the Netherlands Film Fund and hundreds of individual supporters.
Directed by Colin Levy from a screenplay by Esther Wouda—based on a concept by Martin Lodewijk—the story comes alive through Halina Reijn’s voice as Sintel and Thom Hoffman’s as the shaman, with an original score by Jan Morgenstern.
Each year, the Blender Foundation releases an “open movie” to demonstrate what can be achieved with the latest version of its software.
