Police in Zwolle have taken into custody a 14-year-old boy suspected of dressing up as an officer to gain access to private residences and steal valuables. The arrest follows a month-long investigation into a string of burglaries in the city’s residential districts.
Modus Operandi
According to investigators, the teenager donned a police uniform complete with a badge and handcuffs, knocking on doors and claiming to be on official duty. Homeowners, many of them elderly, allowed him inside to “check their premises” before discovering cash, jewelry and electronics missing.
Investigation and Arrest
- Police linked six burglaries between July and August after reviewing CCTV footage.
- On Monday morning, officers apprehended the suspect near his home carrying stolen items in a backpack.
- A subsequent search turned up the uniform, a fake ID card and tools used to remove window locks.
Legal Proceedings
The boy has been placed in a juvenile detention facility pending a hearing. Prosecutors will decide whether to press charges or pursue alternative measures under the youth justice system.
