Warm week ahead, thunderstorms likely on Thursday

Weather forecast

The Netherlands is set to bask in spring sunshine as temperatures climb well above average early in the week. However, this pleasant spell will be interrupted on Thursday by a surge of heavy showers and potentially severe thunderstorms.

Sunny Start to the Week

Monday through Wednesday will bring clear skies and daytime highs ranging from 22°C to 25°C. Lightweight jackets will quickly give way to short sleeves as gentle southwesterly breezes usher in warm air from the continent.

  • Monday: Morning mist clearing by mid-afternoon, top temperatures of 23°C.
  • Tuesday: Bright sunshine with highs up to 24°C and light winds.
  • Wednesday: Warmest day of the spell, peaking near 25°C before clouds begin to gather.

Thunderstorm Alert on Thursday

A low-pressure system moving in from the northwest will trigger widespread thunderstorms on Thursday afternoon and evening. Expect:

  • Intense downpours with rainfall rates up to 20 mm per hour
  • Occasional hail and gusts reaching 60 km/h
  • Risk of localized flooding in low-lying areas

Residents and commuters should keep an eye on updated weather warnings and allow extra travel time as sudden storms may disrupt traffic.

Weekend Outlook

By Friday, the skies will gradually clear and temperatures will retreat to around 18°C–20°C. The weekend will remain mostly dry, with intervals of sunshine and comfortable spring air—ideal for outdoor activities once the storm front has passed.
